The Language and Learning Conference sought to draw attention to the issues surrounding language-in-education in Pakistan, by facilitating discussions among experts, policy makers, educationists and other relevant stakeholders that are concerned with the implications of this issue for our education system. The Conference Committee arranged for the participation of international experts in the field to benefit from their experience and expertise in diverse contexts. The conference interrogated the role of regional, national and global language(s) in the education system of Pakistan, addressed the current practice of the teaching of language(s) and identified the key gaps and challenges that ultimately contributed to poor student learning. The insights and analyses presented in this conference will contribute to the emerging and critical conversation around an appropriate language-in-education policy for Pakistan.
